Problem

The current system for waste management includes numerous stages with tremendous man-power. Every time laborers have to visit the garbage bins in the city area to check whether they are filled or not. If garbage bins are not filled, then the man-power invested goes in vain.

Solution

To overcome this type of problems we proposed a system in which we are monitoring the level of the garbage bins and send the notification once the garbage bin is about to fill. This will drastically reduce the wastage of man-power and would enable us to collect garbage only from those places that are about to overflow.

Ciscosat Simulation

As a Minimum Viable Product, we created four different prototypes to show the potentials of the main features of our system:
  • The Ciscosat Truck App for monitoring the garbage levels of bins and for
providing the best routes to optimize time and fuel consumption and reduce the waste of money.

Ciscosat Truck App

The app is built-in each device which will be connected to trucks sensors to receive real-time information and show them in the system or send them to the control center or to other trucks.

It has four different sections:

  1. Overview to receive information about the weather conditions, the
consumption of the truck, the progress of the collection and additional reminders about events, road closed or truck maintenance.

Ciscosat Design Specifications

1. Aesthetics

  • Easy to clean, Lightweight, And No need of touching the bin as it is equipped with easy functional foot pedal.

Technical Details:-

Color: Green/Blue/Red
Item Weight: 244.66 Kg
Package Dimensions: 100.6 x 60.4 x 79.2 cm
Primary material: Plastic, Steel
Capacity: Standard

2. Cost

  • Wheelie bins prices vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. There is not a great deal of difference in cost between retailers, so a standard 240 liter wheelie bin should cost included to India mainland. As the bins are quite large the delivery cost is quite high and most bin sellers absorb this into the price of their bins.

3. Audience

Green Dustbin:

• For Kitchen Waste.
• Will be picked up by garbage.
• Will be turned into compost.

Blue Dustbins:

• For dry waste like paper and plastic.
• Will be picked up by garbage man twice a week.
• Will be recycled. (Do not fit the bins with plastic bags before use)

Red Dustbins:

• For diapers, sanitary napkins etc.
• Will be picked up by garbage man as and when generated.
• Will be sold door-to-door at nominal rates by self-help groups.

4. Environmental Considerations

  • Garbage, though unseen, can have real impacts on the environment when it is not properly disposed of.

5. Function

  • A waste container is a container for temporarily storing waste, and is usually made out of metal or plastic.

6. Manufacturing

  • Manufacturer of a wide range of products which include plastic recycle dustbin, 45 liter plastic dustbin, industrial plastic dustbin, 10 foot operated dustbin, 15 foot operated dustbin and 25 road side single dustbins.

7. Materials

Recycling bin (Blue lid)

• Clean paper and cardboard (newspapers, magazines, junk mail, envelopes, egg cartons, cardboard boxes — flattened).
• Juice and milk cartons.
• Glass bottles and jars.
• Aluminum/steel cans and lids.
• Aerosol cans (empty).

Organics bin (Green lid)

• Small pruning’s and cuttings.
• Lawn clippings.
• Leaves.
• Weeds.
• Shredded paper (mix the shredded paper with your garden and food waste or damp it down so it
does not blow down the street when the bin is emptied).
• Paper towel and tissues.

Waste bin (Red lid)

• Soft plastics (e.g. plastic wrap, cling film, newspaper sleeves, plastic bags, bin liners). Juice and
milk cartons.
• Nappies.
• Garden hoses. Aerosol cans (empty).
• Bubble wrap and plastic strapping.
• Garden hoses.
• Clothing and rags.

8. Safety

  • We generate trash and garbage every day which requires attention on a regular basis to maintain cleanliness, safety and a healthy environment.

9. Size

  • Size Chart For Typical Standard Wheelie Bins From 80 to 1100 Litres.

  • With a wide range of bins to choose from it can be a confusing time. Before you take the plunge and go ahead and make a purchase there are a few things to take into consideration before you go ahead and get a new bin. If your council only collects every 4 weeks you will need a bigger bin then if your council collects every week.

IoT Devices

1. Node MCU

  • I would like to know lifetime expectancy of ESP-WROOM-32 Module. By lifetime expectancy I mean the amount of duration before ESP-WROOM-32 Module goes nonfunctional.

2. Raspberry pi

  • Estimated lifespan of the Pi 1B was around 30–35 years running without over clock and 25–30 years with over clock. The faster CPUs on the 2B and 3B may reduce that a bit.  Here over clock means it run (the processor of one’s computer) at a speed higher than that intended by the manufacturers.

3. Ultrasonic sensor

  • Ultrasonic sensor can work properly from -25° C to +70° C.

4. Cisco Access Point

  • Cisco access points and wireless controllers to match your Wi-Fi requirements. Answer a few basic questions and our selector tool will assist you with your choice. With increased mobility and an explosion of IoT devices , network security and speed expectations have never been greater. Cisco access points and smart controllers have innovation in radio frequency for high-density environments when following wireless standards 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) and 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5).

Flow work in project

We proposed prototype solution garbage management in that a dustbin has ultrasonic sensor on top of it.

  • Sensor acquires distance, based on it system will calculate how much dustbin is filled with garbage at that moment. Output of ultrasonic sensor will decide how much the dustbin has been filled.
